A better everyday brew, without the guesswork

A satisfying daily coffee starts with a recipe you can repeat. You can keep the ritual simple: measure the coffee and water, follow the instructions for your brewer, then adjust to your taste.

Start with a repeatable ratio

For filter coffee, try 60 grams of coffee per liter of water as a starting point. That is 30 grams of coffee with 500 grams of water, or 15 grams with 250 grams of water. A kitchen scale makes the comparison easier than a scoop, because different coffees can occupy different amounts of space.

Use clean, pleasant-tasting water

Water should taste good on its own. For manual hot brewing, water around 195–205°F is a common starting range. Follow your equipment’s guidance and take care when handling hot water.

Match the grind to your method

Use your brewer’s recommended grind as your first reference. Before changing several settings, make a cup with a recipe you can record. Write down the coffee, grind setting, water amount, and anything you notice about the result.

Change one thing at a time

If the cup feels too intense, try a little more water relative to the coffee. If it feels too light, try a little less. Keep the other settings steady so you can tell what changed. A different coffee may call for a new starting point, and that is part of the fun.

Give the coffee a moment

Taste the cup as it cools enough to drink comfortably. Notice its sweetness, texture, and finish. You do not need to identify every note on the bag to enjoy what is in the cup.
